Vanities & Storage
If space is not an issue, a large vanity cabinet can be designed, stretching from wall to wall, with twin basins, huge volumes of storage, built in lighting and more. Twin basins, prefer for those not willing to wait while others apply their makeup or finish brushing their teeth, are almost a necessity in newly built bathrooms.
Wall mounted vanities can be very practical, providing foot space in a cramped bathroom, however you often lose out on valuable storage space.
If you’re having your cabinetry custom made, then there are lots of basins/sinks which sit on top of the cabinetry, just be mindful that if you have small children they need to be able to see & reach over the bowl, as they are often mounted on top of a standard height cabinet-top, and therefore the finished height is quite high.
The items that need storing in a bathroom tend to be small: makeup, perfume, medicines, combs and manicure sets, linens, toilet paper and cleaning products. Almost always, these can be contained in shallow shelves or cabinets. Infact, items stored on broader shelves or in deeper cabinets are likely to be lost or forgotten, which is why drawers are a great idea in vanities.
Look to the walls above the basin and the toilet for extra storage space; often these can be fitted with narrow shelves or a slim cabinet, but don’t install anything too deep or you’ll risk hitting your head with irritating regularity.
